Serious injury collision, A38 near Uffculme
We are investigating a serious road traffic collision on the A38 near Uffculme at the weekend and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
Officers were called at around 3am on Saturday 19 July, to a report of a black Peugeot car being involved in a collision with a white Peugeot van, which was parked and unattended, on the A38 near Waterloo Cross, Uffculme.
Emergency services attended the scene, and the road was closed in both directions.
Five casualties, all males aged 17, were treated at the scene and received further treatment at hospital.
Two sustained potentially life changing injuries, with the other three less seriously injured.
The road remained closed whilst forensic collision investigators examined the scene.
Our Roads Policing Unit would like to thank the public for their assistance at the scene and for their patience whilst the road closures were in place. The road was reopened at around 1.10pm.
A 17-year-old male from the Tiverton area has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, failing to provide a specimen for analysis and driving whilst unfit through drink. He has been released on bail pending further enquiries.
