Update: Fatal road traffic collision, Plymouth
Police investigating a fatal road traffic collision in Plymouth on Sunday 24 March are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
Emergency services were called at around 9.45am to a report of a collision involving a Nissan Qashqai and two pedestrians on Victoria Road, Plymouth.
South West Ambulance Service, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue and Devon and Cornwall Police all attended.
A woman aged 24 and a girl aged five, from Plymouth, both sustained serious injuries and were taken to Derriford Hospital and were subsequently pronounced deceased. Their next of kin have been informed.
A 74-year-old woman from Plymouth has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and of driving while unfit through drink or drugs. She has been released under investigation.
The road was closed while officers from the Roads Policing Team carried out investigations at the scene. It was reopened around 8.55pm.
Sergeant Troy Bennett, who is leading the investigation, said: “Specialist officers from the Serious Collisions Investigation Team are investigating the circumstances of this tragic collision.
“We would urge anyone with any information or footage from dashcams or doorbells to contact us.”
