A shoplifter who stole booze and meat products totalling over £1,000 from shops in Camborne will now spend 52-weeks in prison.

Tony Salisbury, 44, of no fixed abode, appeared at Bodmin Magistrates’ Court on Monday 5 January.

He pleaded guilty to 11 counts of shoplifting, burglary of a commercial premises, two breaches of his interim Criminal Behaviour Order and an assault of a police officer.

Inspector Lou Brown, who heads up the neighbourhood team in Camborne, said: “It’s clear that from his repeated actions and harmful behaviour that Salisbury had no regard for the harm he was causing in the town, in particular the businesses and their employees.

“I don’t underestimate the significant impact this had on the local community, so I welcome this sentence from the courts.

“Our officers remain committed to making Camborne a safe place for everyone. Work will continue to keep our communities safe and prosecute prolific offenders.”

The court heard how Salisbury targeted Tesco, Co-op and Aldi among other stores on 11 occasions between June – October 2025.

He admitted to entering the retailers to stash goods, including spirits, meat and razors, and leave the premises without any attempt to pay.

Salisbury also gained entry to a local business, causing over £300 worth of damage to the premises and stealing £260 worth of goods in December.

Insp Brown added: “Thank you to all the retailers for their support in this investigation.

“I would like to encourage anyone who witnesses or experiences crime to please continue reporting to us. Your information is key to helping us achieve outcomes like this one. Thank you.”

Special recognition to the Camborne neighbourhood team with assistance from the Neighbourhood support team for their support in the investigation, arrest and court outcome.
