Fatal collision, Torquay

Police investigating a fatal road traffic collision on the A380 in Torquay on Friday 27 October are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

Officers were called to reports of a serious road traffic collision involving a silver Volkswagen Golf hatchback and a grey Volkswagen Passat estate, in Hamelin Way, Torquay, at around 5.35pm.

As a result of the collision, the driver of the Passat, a 40-year-old man from Paignton, was declared deceased at the scene.

Three other people were also taken to hospital for treatment before being discharged.

Local officers, officers from the Roads Policing Team, as well as officers from other units attended the scene. Once a thorough investigation had been conducted, the road was handed over to highways at around 3.10am on Saturday 28 October.

Two men from Torquay, aged 21 and 24, have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and on suspicion of driving a vehicle with a proportion of a specified controlled drug above the specified limit.

The 24-year-old has also been arrested on suspicion of driving a vehicle whilst unfit through drugs.

Both have been bailed until Monday 18 December, pending further enquiries.

Police are keen to speak to anyone travelling from Paignton in the direction of Kerswell Gardens at around 5.30pm, on Friday 27 October, who may have dashcam footage prior to the collision to assist with the investigation, or who witnessed the movement of a silver VW Golf along the ring-road.

Officers are also keen to speak to the driver of a red- or burgundy-coloured small hatch back who may have witnessed the collision.
