UPDATE | Plymouth incident

A 100m cordon that has been in place today following a Police incident in the Mutley Plain area of Plymouth has now been lifted.

The cordon – which resulted in 259 properties being evacuated – was put in place as officers and experts worked at a property in College Avenue in the city.

Police carried out a warrant at a property in College Avenue this morning [17 February] where a white British man, aged 26, was arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm without a certificate. He remains in police custody.

While carrying out searches and enquiries at the house, officers located further items which required specialist review.

An Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team attended the scene and have removed a package, believed to contain fireworks, which has been taken away to be made safe.

There is not believed to be any wider risk to the public, and the incident is not considered terrorism related.

Evacuated residents are now able to return to their homes.

A scene guard will remain in place at the property itself.
