A shoplifter who stole over £340 worth of goods in one month will now spend eight-weeks in prison.

Plymouth local Adele Robinson, aged 25, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to eight counts of shoplifting after admitting to stealing a range of goods including coffee, household products and energy drinks.

Robinson appeared at Plymouth Magistrates Court on Thursday 9 July where she was handed jail time for her run of offending at Co-op and Morrisons between 11 May and 7 June.

Police Inspector Paul Laity said: “Robinson’s prolific and persistent shoplifting was causing real harm within the community, so I welcome this outcome from the courts.

“Shoplifting can have a significant impact, not only through the financial losses suffered by businesses, but also through the effect repeated offending can have on the wellbeing, confidence and sense of security of employees.

“Thank you to the business community who worked alongside us to report and submit vital evidence which allowed us to get this result at court.

“Securing these sentences is just one of the way’s our team is tackling those who cause harm in our communities – we will continue to be proactive, patrolling your streets and carrying out targeted operations.”

Commenting on the importance of reporting, Inspector Laity added: “I would urge business impacted by shoplifting or anyone who witnesses it to please report it.

“Your information is key in helping us to build evidence against prolific offenders so that we can put them before the courts.”

The investigation was led by the Devonport Neighbourhood Policing team.
