Plymouth man jailed for controlling and coercive behaviour
A 44-year-old man has been jailed for a prolonged attack on a woman which included strangulation.
Fraser Stacey, 44, of Malmesbury Close, Plymouth, was sentenced to 32 months in prison at Plymouth Crown Court recently.
The court heard how on Wednesday 16 August 2023, Stacey used his knee to apply excessive force to the victim’s stomach before he hit her head against the floor several times. Stacey proceeded to punch the victim in the face.
The victim attended hospital several days later and police were alerted.
Stacey was arrested and subsequently charged with coercive and controlling behaviour, intentional strangulation and assault by beating.
A ten-year restraining order was also put in place.
Inspector Christopher Kinski said: “As a force, we are committed to bringing violent offenders to justice.
“We would like to acknowledge the victim in this case, for the bravery she has shown in disclosing the abuse she has suffered; we hope that this sentence will allow her to be able move forward in her life.
“This investigation was supported by our partners who assist police to protect and support victims of abuse. I hope this sends out a clear message to the public that domestic violence will not be tolerated, and that we will do everything we can to bring offenders to justice.”
