Closure order secured to help prevent antisocial behaviour, Bude
A property in Bude that became a hotspot for antisocial behaviour (ASB) becomes a no-go zone for visitors after officers serve tenants with a partial closure order.
The tenants of a property located on St Olafs Road were served with a three-month partial closure order which makes it an offence for anyone other than the residents named on the order to be inside the premises.
Individuals who do not follow this order can face criminal prosecution.
The enforcement follows numerous reports from the community of suspected drug dealing, visitors at all hours of the day, noise disturbances, criminal damage and violent incidents.
Inspector Greg Hodgkiss, who is in charge of local policing in North Cornwall, said: “I’d like to make it clear that North Cornwall remains a safe place to live in the UK, but where crime and antisocial behaviour does take place, we will deal with it robustly.
“It was important we took action to protect the wellbeing and livelihoods of the local community and put a stop to this repeated behaviour.
“Whilst only temporary, our officers will continue to work with the residents and the public to prevent further offences from taking place in and around the address.”
Insp Hodgkiss added: “If you’re experiencing similar incidents where you live – please report it. If you don’t tell us, we can’t do anything to tackle it. Thank you.”
The order was granted on 12 August at Bodmin Magistrates Court under Section 80 of the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime & Policing Act.
This work forms part of a wider strategy to tackle antisocial behaviour and crime in the area. It follows two separate closure orders that were served in June at two further addresses located in North Cornwall. In addition to closure orders, officers continue to carry out targeted patrols and operations to target ASB.
