Cornwall-residents are invited to come along to a local event in their area to learn more about the world of policing and what it takes to join Devon & Cornwall Police.

The series of five pop-up events will run across the county, offering people from all backgrounds a chance to chat with officers about what to expect from being a police officer in the force.

The police engagement van will be at the following locations between 9am – 12pm:

  • Monday 23 March: outside Bodmin Police Station
  • Tuesday 24 March: outside St Austell Police Station
  • Wednesday 25 March: outside Penzance Police Station
  • Thursday 26 March: Lemon Quay, Truro
  • Friday 27 March: The Moor, Falmouth

PC John Holland, who is heading up the events, said: “Our events are open to everyone, with a focus on reaching people who may not have previously considered a career in emergency services.

“We also want this event to be an opportunity for us dispel any misconceptions and break down barriers to applying that individuals may be experiencing, particularly those from ethnic minority backgrounds, people with disabilities, neurodivergent individuals and women.

“There is a vast amount of information online about careers in policing, but we don’t underestimate the value of having a face-to-face conversation with someone.”

PC Holland added: “Whether policing is the career for you or not, please come along to find out more. It’d be great to see you there.”

The events have been set up by the Devon & Cornwall Police Positive Action team and supported by the Diverse Communities team and the local neighbourhood policing teams.

They form part of an ongoing commitment to build a workforce that reflects the communities it serves, strengthening trust and ensuring fairness and accessibility throughout the recruitment process.

Members of the public are encouraged to visit the team during the week to learn more, ask questions, and explore whether a future in policing could be right for them.
