Police in Exeter offer free property marking to deter bike thieves
Officers offered free bike marking to the cycling community in Exeter at a property marking event in a bid to prevent bike thefts in the city.
On Thursday 30 April, the Neighbourhood Policing Team held a free bike marking event at St Homas Baptist Church in Exeter.
Local cyclists were invited to chat with officers who were offering to mark bikes with a unique code and add them to the national ‘Bike Register’ database in a bid to deter thieves and to make it easier for officers to reunite stolen bikes with owners.
Police Community Support Officers were also on hand to offer advice on how to keep bikes secure at home or when out and about.
Neighbourhood Beat Manager said: “Bikes can be costly to buy, and we know many people are reliant on them as a mode of transport to and from work or education.
“We hold these events several times a year, so, if you own a bike or an e-bike and are interested in learning more, keep an eye on the Exeter Police page on Facebook where we advertise all upcoming events.”
