Appeal following incident in Newton Abbot

A man has sustained serious injuries following an incident in Newton Abbot last night.

Officers carried out a stop check on a vehicle in Newton Abbot town centre at around 11.15pm on Wednesday 14 May.

Four individuals, all aged in their 20s, exited the car - two were detained and two fled the area.

The driver and a passenger were arrested at the scene on suspicion of drugs offences. They remain in police custody.

A short time later officers were made aware of an injured man in Bearnes Lane. The man, who is believed to be one of the passengers, has sustained multiple injuries and remains in hospital. The circumstances of this are being investigated.

Officers located the fourth person at home and have carried out a welfare check.Devon & Cornwall Police have made a mandatory referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct, as is normal procedure in these circumstances.
