Police in Newquay reveal crime incidents down 36% and commend event organisers

Police in Newquay have commended event organisers, businesses, festival goers, visitors and its community for a peaceful, enjoyable, May bank holiday weekend with reported crime incidents 36% down compared to the same weekend last year.

Newquay played hosted to an array of events including the return of Run to the Sun, a street market, Cornwall Street Food Festival and Sky Bar at Watergate Bay on the outskirts of the town.

Events in Newquay over the bank holiday weekend were well attended with thousands of people at ticketed events, none of which required police response.

Guy Blackford, Devon & Cornwall Police Sector lead for Newquay said: “No incidents were reported to Devon & Cornwall Police over the weekend related to events in the area and according to our crime statistics incidents were down 36% compared to the same weekend last year.

“The town centre was busy and the events were well attended and well-run by licensees. All partners worked together with the police to help keep people happy, safe and enjoying the sun during a bustling weekend.”

Mark Warren, Newquay BID manager added: “The town centre was very busy with locals and tourists alike enjoying all the events soaking up not just the sun but an amazing friendly and safe atmosphere.”
