Cyclists in the South Molton area are being encouraged to saddle up and visit the local pannier market to have their bikes security marked for free.

The local neighbourhood police team will be at the market in Broad Street, South Molton, between 9am and 1pm on the dates below.

Sergeant Rob Brown explained: “The bicycle security marking is a benefit we like to offer cyclists in the area to help keep them safe. I am keen to hear from any cycling clubs in the North Devon area who we may be able to engage with to help them protect their bikes. Now we are heading towards the summer months the weather is hopefully improving and more people will be thinking about getting on their bikes again.”

Officers are also offering the bicycle marking to make it easier to reunite the bikes with their owners if they get stolen.

You can visit the South Molton Pannier Market and meet the officers between 9am and 1pm on Saturday 25 May, Thursday 6 June, Saturday 22 June, Thursday 18 July, Thursday 1 August, Saturday 17 August, Saturday 14 September and Thursday 26 September. All police attendance at these events is subject to operational demand.

Sergeant Rob Brown is the Neighbourhood Team Leader for South Molton. His team includes PCs Steve Theobald and Scott Elliott plus Police Community Support Officer Paul Whitehouse.

Sgt Rob Brown added: “We want to give the public plenty of opportunities to come and meet us face to face and have a chat or raise any concerns about any subject they may have. If we can’t help we can point them in the direction of someone who can. Anyone can drop by and discuss any policing issues they may have or pick up some crime prevention advice.”

Other local opportunities to meet the neighbourhood team are from 10am to 12pm at Chulmleigh Village Hall on Monday 3 June, Monday 1 July, Monday 5 August and Monday 23 September. Bike marking will also be made available there.
