Appeal for witnesses following hate-related assault in Paignton
Police are appealing for witnesses following a report of a hate-related assault on a disabled man in Paignton.
The incident is reported to have taken place on the seafront at Goodrington, approximately halfway between the Premier Inn and Torbay Surf Life Saving Club, on Thursday 17 September 2026 between 11.30am and 12.30pm.
A man in his 60s was subjected to hate-related verbal abuse before being physically assaulted by an unknown man riding a bicycle.
Officers investigating the incident believe there may have been a number of potential witnesses in the area at the time. The victim has reported that a group of school children accompanied by teachers were nearby, and that the steam train was approaching the location when the incident occurred.
Police are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the assault or saw a cyclist in the area who may be connected to the incident.
