Information ahead of protests in Exeter on Saturday 4 April

Devon & Cornwall Police officers will be present in Exeter City Centre today, Saturday 4 April, to police two protest marches.

We have been engaging with organisers, local partners and businesses, to balance the right to protest, with the impact of the protests on others.

In order to enable the protests and minimise disruption to the general public, there will be an increased police presence throughout the day.

A Section 60AA order will be in place from 7am to 5pm.

The order will give officers additional powers to require the removal of face coverings or any other item which is being used for the purpose of concealing someone’s identity.

To prevent disruption, we have utilised powers under 14 of the Public Order Act, between 7am and 5pm.

These set out legal conditions on organisers and participants around the where participants cannot go, the length of time of any protest can take place, and the areas where respective groups must convene.

Both protest groups are expected to convene from approximately 11am onwards and disperse by 5pm.
