Police in Barnstaple have handed over money to The Veterans Charity to help pay for specialist equipment.

The donation of £2,798 will help the national charity deliver training courses, therapy sessions and other activities for those veterans suffering hardship.

The group are based locally in Barnstaple, North Devon and do lots of positive work to support military veterans with a range of needs from all different generations.

Inspector Andy Wills, who heads up the Barnstaple local policing sector for Devon & Cornwall Police, recently met with The Veterans Charity Chief Executive Danny Greeno.

Inspector Andy Wills said: “We are delighted to be able to help The Veterans Charity with these funds. They organised this year’s Armed Forces Day in Rock Park, Barnstaple, which was really well received and they are also one of the local Mayor’s nominated charities for this year. They do lots of good work to help local communities.”

The funds were donated as part of the Proceeds of Crime Act which allows police to seize assets from criminals and re-distribute them to good causes.

Danny Greeno is the Chief Executive of the Veterans Charity and added: “We are extremely grateful to Inspector Andy Wills from Devon & Cornwall Police who visited our Barnstaple HQ recently and presented us with a cheque for an incredible £2,798.

“The funds are being used to purchase specialist equipment for the Veteran’s Depot including presentation kit, which will help to deliver training courses, therapy sessions and other activities to benefit those people attending events at our base.

“Inspector Wills spoke with our team about the importance of good community policing and working together. The Community Fund is a fantastic resource for charities and local groups to be able to apply for funds from Devon & Cornwall Police. There are many veterans working within police forces and we are proud to have such a great relationship with them.”
