Cyclists invited to free bike marking event at Haldon Forest
Cyclists who want to keep their bikes even safer are invited to a free security marking event this weekend.
Officers from the Teignmouth and Dawlish Neighbourhood Police Team have organised the event at Haldon Forest Park mountain bike centre on Sunday 9 August.
Cyclists are invited to take their bikes along between 10am and 2pm and the simple procedure means owners are better protected.
Police Community Support Officer Saul Bunce explained: “We know that bike owners are more likely to have their cycles stolen if they are not security marked. The Bike Register is a database used by UK police forces to reunite hundreds of stolen bikes every year with their owners.
“Everyone is welcome to this event and we look forward to seeing plenty of cyclists there.”
The marking system means that if a bike is stolen police can check a database and return the bike to its rightful owner.
Haldon Forest Park is a short drive from Exeter and is a popular spot for mountain biking and horse riding.
