Suspected unexploded ordnance discovered near Falmouth Docks
Police have extended a safety cordon to 300m following the discovery of a suspected unexploded ordnance device at Falmouth Docks.
The item was located earlier today in water near the dock area. Specialist Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) are still on the scene assessing the device, which is believed to be a 250kg American missile from World War Two.
A safety cordon was established around the location, covering both land and sea, while enquiries and assessment work continue. As a precaution, three residential properties have been evacuated.
Members of the public are asked to avoid the area and follow the advice of emergency services and port officials. HM Coastguard is also advising boat users to stay clear of the area until further notice.
Officers are working closely with partner agencies, including Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service, the Port Authority and the Harbour Master.
The public is urged not to approach the area or enter any restricted zones.
