A Plymouth man who filmed himself attacking and raping a woman has been jailed.

Jamie Baker, 38, of no fixed abode, appeared at Plymouth Crown Court on Friday 28 June where he was sentenced to 12 years in prison.

Baker was convicted of two counts of rape and one of false imprisonment following a trial.

The court heard that in May last year, Baker had called the victim, who was known to him, and demanded that she go and see him.

Baker shut her in a room and blocked the door with a chair, jamming the handle with a DVD player so the door couldn’t be opened.

He put loud music on and began his attack including tying her hands with a tea towel and dragging her by her hair before raping her twice.

He ignored her cries for him to stop as he threw her across the room, telling her to ‘go and get the chips from the oven’.

He later showed the victim a video recording of the attack that he had made on his phone.

Baker pleaded not guilty to all offences and following trial, he was found guilty of two counts of rape and one of false imprisonment and not guilty of 16 offences against the same victim.

He appeared at court today where the judge jailed him for 12 years.

Detective Constable Kate Dure, from the Sexual Offences Investigation Team said: “First and foremost I want to praise the bravery of the victim for coming forward to report such a vicious and heinous crime and for supporting the police investigation.

“We welcome the sentence passed by the judge and I hope the outcome today gives others the courage to come forward and report offences to us – we will listen and you will be heard.”
