Police prepare to keep everything shipshape as they get ready for the busy Brixham Pirate Festival
This Bank Holiday weekend is set to be very busy in the South West and police officers in Brixham have a large number of Buccaneers visiting the town.
The popular Brixham Pirate Festival takes place from 2 to 4 May around the harbour area and officers will be mixing with the large crowds to make sure everyone has a good time and stays safe.
Sergeant Ed Thomas is the Brixham Neighbourhood Police Team Leader and will be on duty this weekend. He said: “This is one of the busiest free family events in our area and it’s a much-loved festival with plenty of fancy dress and music. We want to make sure visitors have a great day so we will be out and about if anyone needs us. We would urge people attending the event to make sure their phone is fully charged and ensure they have a plan and identify a designated meeting point in case they lose touch with their friends or family members. We would urge visitors to use public transport where possible and, if you are planning to drive, expect traffic delays in the area and plan where to park in advance
“Anyone with young children will need to keep an extra special eye on them in the busy crowds.
“This is a fantastic weekend in the police team calendar and we hope the community have a good time for the right reasons. Please remember to pack suncream or an umbrella and we would urge those drinking not to go overboard and cause a nuisance to others. Although we won’t be making anyone walk the gang plank but those breaking the law and causing trouble could find themselves in a police custody centre.”
Police in Brixham work with partners such as festival event organisers, the local authority and the Harbourmaster months ahead to plan for the enjoyable event.
