Fatal collision, Ilfracombe

Police investigating a single vehicle collision on Hillsborough car park in Ilfracombe on Friday 15 September are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

Officers were called to reports of a collision involving a purple land train and a pedestrian at around 5.15pm.

As a result of the collision, the pedestrian, a local man in his 50s, became trapped by the vehicle and was pronounced deceased at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.

The collision occurred outside the vehicle’s storage facility. It was not in operation on its route at the time.

The car park was closed to the public while local officers and roads policing officers conducted a thorough investigation of the scene. It was reopened at around 11.40am on Saturday 16 September

A 61-year-old man from Ilfracombe was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He has been released on bail to return on Friday 3 November, pending further enquiries.
