The Force is recruiting for contact officers and resource deployment officers

Can you answer our call?

Devon & Cornwall Police is now recruiting for contact officers and resource deployment officers based in the Force’s Exeter and Plymouth contact and control centres.

Contact officers play a critical role in answering emergency 999 calls and non-emergency 101 calls, as well as speaking to the public via webchat. The role requires resilient, reliable candidates who are able to cope in a pressured environment with decision-making skills key.

Resource deployment officers manage our radio channels and despatch officers to incidents, balancing priorities between emergency calls and non-urgent incidents. They also handle emergency 999 calls.

Candidates will receive a competitive salary and a high standard of training, both at the start and throughout their careers.

Chief Superintendent Ian Drummond-Smith, Head of Contact Resolution, said: “We are looking for 30 people to join our Exeter and Plymouth Contact Centres in January 2023 as contact officers and resource deployment officers. This is a unique opportunity for the right person to work within the control rooms for Devon & Cornwall Police and help make our communities safer.

“Working in our contact and control centres gives you the chance to make a real difference to the lives of people in Devon and Cornwall. You will be faced with unique challenges and experiences daily, but you will be well supported by our close-knit team.

“On top of the salary, around £28,500, there are great progression opportunities and the six days on, four days off shift pattern allows for a good work-life balance. I would urge anyone who has ever wanted to learn more about these roles to attend our awareness event or visit our website.”

Our staff come from all backgrounds and walks of life, and their motivations for being a part of the police family are numerous.

One of our Contact Resolution Centre staff, Rob Champness, said: “I am proud to have worked for Devon & Cornwall Police for 13 years and counting. A large portion of that time has been within the Contact & Resolution Centre as contact officer and subsequently a supervisor. I work with great people every day and genuinely enjoy coming into work. The role can be challenging at times but it’s always rewarding. At the sharp end of the Force, you can really make a difference.”

Zoe Cioffi, a resource deployment officer based in Plymouth, said: “My role as a resource deployment officer requires resilience and composure and rewards with opportunities to assist others in crisis, while encouraging public confidence in the police. I am able to fulfil my passion for helping people, balancing empathy and logic in challenging circumstances to achieve the most positive outcome.”
