Arrest following assaults in Exmouth

A teenage boy has been arrested in connection with two separate assaults on older males aged 56 and 65 in Exmouth.

Police were contacted after recent incidents at a shop on Magnolia Walk and Exmouth Indoor Market on The Strand.

In both of these incidents which took place on Monday 15 April, an older male was assaulted and injured.

Following enquiries by the neighbourhood team a 14-year-old boy from Exeter was arrested on suspicion of assault by beating and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. He has been released on conditional police bail until 18 July while enquiries continue.

Sector Inspector for East and Mid Devon, Grant Leitch said: “My professional neighbourhood team are taking these reports extremely seriously and have conducted a thorough investigation.

“We were deployed as soon as we were able and from gathering evidence from witnesses and CCTV, have identified suspects and carried out an arrest.

 “A juvenile suspect has been released on bail. The victims in the case have been updated on the progress of the investigation.

“We take reports of this type extremely seriously and our neighbourhood team refuses to accept or allow such behaviour.”
