JAILED | Man jailed for raping woman he met in Truro bar
A man has been jailed for raping a woman he met on a night out in Truro.
Christopher Diamond, 48, from Truro, was sentenced at Truro Crown Court on Friday 8 August having been convicted at a trial of rape.
Diamond was jailed for seven years and must sign the Sex Offenders’ Register.
During the trial, the jury was told how on Saturday 18 May 2022, Diamond met the victim in a bar. The two visited various establishments together with Diamond buying the majority of her drinks.
At the end of the night, with the victim stating she wasn’t feeling well, the two left the city centre to head to her address. She disclosed to Diamond she was worried about her medication so it was agreed he’d walk her home.
Once inside the address the victim became poorly and rushed to the toilet. Then, while she was either asleep or passed out, Diamond raped her.
She reported the matter to the police the following morning. Despite Diamond stating no sexual intercourse took place, semen matching Diamond’s DNA profile was found on a swab taken from the victim.
Officer in the case, DC Rhys Salisbury, said: “This conviction reflects the strength of the victim, who has shown remarkable resilience throughout this traumatic process.
“A sentence of seven years recognises the severity of the crime and sends a clear message that sexual violence will not be tolerated.
“We will do all that we can to seek out offenders who commit such crimes and bring them to justice.
“I hope today’s outcome offers some sense of closure and reassurance that the victim’s has been heard.”
