Serious injury collision, Plymouth
Police investigating a serious road traffic collision on Embankment Road, Plymouth, are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
Police were called to reports of a collision involving a red Vauxhall Corsa and a pedal cyclist on the inside lane of the outbound carriageway of Embankment Road in Plymouth, at around 3.40am today, Tuesday 28 January.
The cyclist, a man in his 40s from Plymouth, sustained serious injuries and has been taken to Derriford Hospital. His injuries are not thought to be life threatening at this time.
The driver of the Vauxhall Corsa failed to stop at the scene of the collision.
Local officers and Roads Policing Officers attended the scene and have conducted a thorough investigation.
The road was closed for several hours whilst the investigation took place and was reopened at around 1pm.
Police would like to thank members of the public for their understanding and patience.
A man in his 30s from Plymouth has been arrested on suspicion causing serious injury by careless driving, driving a vehicle when alcohol level above the limit and of failing to stop after a road accident. He remains in police custody at this time.
Officers would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information or dashcam footage which may have captured the red Vauxhall Corsa in and around the area at the time of the collision that could help the police with their enquiries.
