Advice for football supporters ahead of Plymouth Argyle versus Leeds United
On Saturday 3 May, Plymouth Argyle host Leeds United in the final round of fixtures in the EFL Championship.
Leeds, who have already confirmed promotion, will be backed by a sold out away end as they try to secure the title. Many ticketless Leeds fans are also expected to make the long journey south.
Argyle, on the other hand, were effectively relegated last weekend due to other results but will be hoping to continue their strong end to the season ahead of the next campaign.
Devon and Cornwall Police is expecting thousands of Leeds fans to travel to Devon over the Bank Holiday weekend for the 12.30pm kick-off and officers will be deployed in readiness for this.
Drinking around the stadium
The Britannia Inn JD Wetherspoon pub is the closest pub to Home Park Stadium but is strictly home fans only, with ticket checks carried out on the door.
There are no away drinking venues near to the stadium.
Visiting supporters are advised that the away end at the stadium will open from 9am with food and refreshments available.
Alternatively, there are a number of licenced premises in the city centre that are a 25 minute walk from Home Park, however many of these will not be open at that time of morning. The city centre is linked to the area around the stadium by bus with taxis also available.
Advice for home supporters
Plymouth Argyle have released advice reminding supporters that it is a criminal offence to enter the pitch, and that those who chose to do so may risk potential prosecution.
Due to the volume of Leeds fans expected in Plymouth, the club has implemented an outer ring to aid security. Fans are advised to allow extra time to enter the stadium.
Any Argyle supporters who breach terms and conditions when selling tickets outside the club’s approved ticket resale method, risk having their ticketing account suspended.
Superintendent Emma Butler-Jones said: “We are expecting a large number of Leeds United fans in Devon as they hope to celebrate the league title.
“There will be a larger than usual police presence around the stadium to ensure that supporters of both teams are able to enjoy the match in a safe environment.
“Fans without tickets are advised to stay away from the stadium area as they will not gain access.
“There are no pubs for away fans within walking distance of the stadium, but visiting supporters will be able to gain access to the away area several hours before kick-off.
“We hope all supporters enjoy the game.”
