Paignton and Brixham communities have a new Neighbourhood Inspector
A police officer with more than 15 years’ experience serving Devon and Cornwall will now head up police teams in Paignton and Brixham as the area’s new Inspector.
Nichola Drury, known as Nicky, is heading up the local neighbourhood teams and is focused on tackling issues that matter most to communities, preventing crime and meeting residents across the areas.
Neighbourhood teams carry out essential policing work including high-visibility foot patrols and resolving long-term problems, such as anti-social behaviour. They also lead interventions to prevent people from becoming victims of crime.
Inspector Drury said: “My message to the people I serve is that I’m proud to live and work within the community, we live in a fantastic part of the world, and I feel very invested in keeping it a safe place to be. I look forward to meeting the community, building new partnerships and working with them.”
The Inspector has served with Devon & Cornwall Police since January 2009 and is an experienced officer with various roles including Response officer in Torquay, Professional Development, Police Trainer and Neighbourhood Policing Sergeant.
Insp Drury has also worked as the Force Control Centre Inspector, Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) tactical advisor and Commander and also served in the role of Inspector at the Professional Development Unit.
Some of her career highlights include developing new training processes during the Covid pandemic to maintain initial training of student officers and delivering extra resources to the front line.
In her spare time the officer follows the Exeter Chiefs Women’s rugby team and enjoys walking her dogs.
Neighbourhood teams across Devon and Cornwall are made up of Police Constables (PCs), Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) and Sergeants.
The team play a different role to the patrol teams who are responsible for responding to emergency 999 calls - neighbourhood teams provide a vital link between communities, schools, partnership agencies and community groups.
Their essential work aims to deter people from committing crime as a result of their interventions and working relationships, and to educate and prevent people from falling victim to crime.
Local neighbourhood officers will be attending this weekend’s Remembrance Sunday event at Palace Avenue Park in Paignton on 8 November and on Wednesday 11 November they will also be supporting the Armistice Day event at the same location.
In Brixham the special remembrance events will be marked at Berry Head Road on Sunday 8 November and at Dartmouth Road on 11 November. Police will be in the area to keep everyone safe.
