Fun in store for Tavistock families at ‘MAD’ event
A community fun day will take place later this month in Tavistock, offering families a unique opportunity to meet those who help to keep them safe every day.
Neighbourhood Police Officers in Tavistock have organised the town’s first ‘Multi-Agency Day’ which will give local people and visitors a chance to meet public sector agencies and charities who work to keep communities safe.
The event, dubbed a MAD day, is completely free and will take place on Saturday 21 June between 10.00am and 4.00pm at Bedford Square and Guildhall Car Park in Tavistock town centre.
Officers from the Tavistock neighbourhood policing team will be attending alongside Devon & Somerset Fire and Rescue Service, South Western Ambulance Service, Dartmoor National Park Rangers, Devon and Cornwall 4x4 Response, South West Blood Bikes, Dartmoor Rescue, Police Cadets, the Dartmoor National Park Authority and many more.
Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) Debbie Hollinson is part of the Tavistock Neighbourhood Policing Team and had the idea to organise the day with partner agencies.
She said: “We wanted to set up a fun and informative engagement day to demonstrate to our community how emergency services work alongside partner agencies.
“This is an exciting opportunity for the community to come together and enjoy a fabulous, educational, family day out and we would like to encourage as many people as possible to come along, support the day and have a chat with various services who help to keep everyone safe.
“We’ve had a fabulous response to the event, The Museum of Policing will be open, and the day promises to be an enjoyable and worthwhile one for us all.”
During the Multi-Agency Day, visitors will also be able to meet some of the force’s talented police dogs who support officers to detect drugs, USB devices, explosives and money, and who play a crucial role in searches for missing people, crime scene investigations, and tracking offenders.
Officers from Plymouth will be joining the Tavistock team with the CCTV van and the knife arch; showcasing how the technology assists with policing. There will also be representatives from the RSPCA, Street Pastors and The Big Issue.
