JAILED | St Austell drug dealer jailed after his home searched by police

A drug dealer has been sentenced to three and a half years in prison after a warrant uncovered a large quantity of drugs and weapons within his bedroom.

Karl Duckworth, 31, from Wheal Eliza Close in St Austell, appeared at Truro Crown Court for sentence recently after pleading guilty to possession with intent to supply Class A and B drugs and possession of an offensive weapon.

The court heard how a warrant was executed at Duckworth’s home on the evening of 16 May after intelligence he was linked to drug supply from his home address.

A search of Duckworth’s bedroom uncovered 256 grams of cocaine, 7kg of cannabis, 5,524 cannabis vape pens some of which had been filled with THC, more than £2,000 in cash and tobacco pouches worth around £4,000.

The cannabis had a potential street value of around £77,000, the cocaine £18,280, the THC vape pens £3,120 and THC oil a potentially street value of £40,000.

An extendable baton, knives and throwing knives were also located within the room, as well as scales.

Officer in the case, DC Hannah Ackford said: “This was an example of proactive and collaborative working within the force which resulted in a large quantity of drugs as well as illegal tobacco, and weapons being seized and destroyed.

“I would like to thank all those involved in assisting me with this investigation.

“We encourage the public to come forward and provide us with information so we can tackle drug dealers such as Karl Duckworth.

“Their information provides a better picture of what is going on within our communities and the more information we receive, the more able we are to be able to proactively tackle this type of offending.

“There is no room for this kind of activity in Cornwall and local residents should not have to witness the impact of drug dealing within their community.”
