New innovative business crime reduction pilot launches in East Cornwall
As part of the Force’s efforts to target shoplifters, Devon & Cornwall Police are encouraging businesses in East Cornwall to sign up to a free pilot for a new innovative crime reduction partnership, which aims to help police catch offenders.
A free subscription to the UK Partners Against Crime (UKPAC) Business Crime Reduction Solution is being offered as a pilot to traders in Liskeard, Looe, Saltash and Torpoint. The free trial period for all sign-ups will end May 2026. The platform offers an alternative option for retailers to report business crime.
Inspector Ned Bowie, who heads up neighbourhood police teams across the areas, said: “We know the devastating impact shoplifting can have on local businesses, especially for the smaller traders that are also targeted. We hope that this trial will offer businesses effective support in gathering evidence to target offenders.”
Commenting on the benefits of the system, Insp Bowie said: “The UKPAC team will work closely with our neighbourhood officers, liaising directly to share evidence packages that are created using information shared by businesses on the platform. They’ll also work alongside traders to help build strong, quality evidence against offenders.
“The intelligence we’ll receive from the platform will be invaluable in our investigations, helping us to achieve better outcomes, quicker.”
Insp Bowie added: “I’d also like to make it clear that whether traders use the new system available to them or they choose to report through traditional channels, we want businesses to know that we take all reports of crime seriously, no matter what way they’re reported to us.
“Let’s continue working collaboratively to tackle business crime and put prolific offenders before the courts."
The free trial of UKPAC is available for businesses in Liskeard, Looe, Saltash and Torpoint. The number of free trial passes is limited, so businesses are advised to sign up as soon as possible. This trial has been made possible by using money from the police’s summer policing fund in a bid to increase engagement with local businesses. The free-trial period for the UKPAC system will end May 2026.
