Fatal road traffic collision, Plymouth
Police are appealing for witnesses and information following a fatal road traffic collision in Plymouth.
Officers were called at around 5.20pm on Tuesday 17 Dec to Ham Drive following a collision involving a grey Audi and a silver Ford Fiesta.
A woman in her 60s from Plymouth, the driver of the Fiesta, has since been confirmed deceased. Her next of kin have been informed.
A man in his 30s from Plymouth has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs. He was taken to hospital to be treated for his injuries.
The road was closed while an investigation was carried out at the scene. Officers from the Roads Policing Team would like to thank the public for their patience whilst the road was closed.
Inspector Jane Corkhill, head of the Serious Collisions Investigation Team, said: "We are deeply saddened that a lady has lost her life in yet another fatal road traffic collision on our Devon and Cornwall’s roads.
“As always, my team are conducting a thorough, complex investigation to provide answers for the victim's family and friends.
“A local man in his 30s has been arrested and will be assisting us with our enquiries.
“This will undoubtedly cause community tension in the area which will be managed by our colleagues on the local Neighbourhood Policing Team.
“Our thoughts are very much with the victim and her family at this terribly tragic time and they will be supported by specially trained officers throughout the investigation. "
