Man charged with attempted murder, Plymouth

A man has been charged with attempted murder following an alleged incident in Plymouth on Friday 16 January.

Eugene Pope, aged 23 of Harwell Street, Plymouth, has been charged with attempted murder, assault by beating, possession of a bladed/pointed article in a public place and possession of cannabis.

He has been remanded in custody and will appear before Plymouth Magistrates’ Court on Monday 19 January.

We were called at around 9.20am on Friday 16 January to reports that a woman had been assaulted near Hastings Terrace and Penrose Street.

The woman, who is in her 70s, was taken to hospital with injuries and has since been discharged from hospital.

We were also informed of reports that a second person had been assaulted in the area earlier that morning. The woman, who is in her 30s, suffered minor injuries.

Armed officers attended the area, and a cordon was put in place which has since been removed.
