Property becomes no-go zone after repeated antisocial behaviour

A Camborne property responsible for a stream of antisocial behaviour (ASB) has now become a no-go zone after being issued with a full closure order.

It is now a criminal offence for anyone to step foot inside the address located on Parc an Tansys for the next three months.

The order was issued after months of ongoing ASB, suspected drug use and violence linked to the address.

Inspector Lou Brown said: “The ASB happening in and around the property was unsettling and the cause of worry for many in the area.

“It’s hard to grasp just quite how much behaviour like this can impact and disrupt the daily lives and wellbeing of so many, so it was important we took action.

“Obtaining closure orders is never our first course of action. We always look at other options available to us to help stop the behaviour, but in this case, the closure order was a necessary step to safeguard local residents.

“We are pleased that the Magistrates Court have granted the full closure order for the property - we believe this is a really positive result that will improve the lives of local residents.”

The order served on Wednesday 15 April was secured as a result of an investigation carried out by Camborne's ASB officer, the Camborne neighbourhood police team with assistance from the Devon & Cornwall Police’s Legal team.

Kay Smith, ASB officer for Camborne, said: “This property and the behaviour associated with it has been a blight on the other residents within this road for some months now.

“We have been working with various partner agencies to attempt to support the tenant to resolve the issues being experienced, unfortunately this wasn’t successful and, as such, we had no option other than to apply for a full closure which was granted by the courts.

“Hopefully this action will bring much needed peace to the area allowing other residents to enjoy their homes without constant disturbance and fear of violence.”

Individuals who do not follow this order can face criminal prosecution.

Tenants impacted by this order have been signposted to support services.

This work forms part of a wider strategy to tackle antisocial behaviour and crime in the area. In addition to closure orders, officers continue to carry out targeted patrols and operations to target ASB.
