Youths admit string of burglaries in Devon
Two youths have entered guilty pleas in connection to a string of burglaries in Devon.
On Thursday 26 September officers arrested two suspects in Exeter for 16 burglaries and one attempted burglary.
The defendants broke into homes in the middle of the night, often whilst victims were asleep to steal car keys and other personal belongings.
They continued to show disregard for their victims, badly damaging and often abandoning their cars after they were stolen. By the volume of homes targeted, they continued to have no remorse nor regard for the financial and psychological impact their crimes had on their victims.
The offending took place between 24 July and 12 September and included ram raids at commercial premises in Cheriton Bishop and Bampton.
Other burglaries took place at homes in Exeter, Chawleigh, Witheridge, Puddington and Tiverton.
A 17-year-old boy from Exeter and a 16-year-old boy from South Molton both appeared at Exeter Youth Court today [Friday 27 September] and entered guilty pleas to all offences.
They were released on bail ahead of their respective sentencings on 31 October and 11 November.
Detective Sergeant Jessie Vallance said: “Burglary is an invasive crime that leaves victims feeling vulnerable in their own home. The impact the defendants have had by committing these prolific and serious offences should not be underestimated.
“Police officers and detectives involved in OP Ferdilan have worked tirelessly and round the clock to conduct a significant amount of enquiries and bring those responsible to justice. It is hoped that this conviction will prevent further offences and provide at least some consolation to the victims of these crimes.
“Exeter police would like to thank the public for their help and support regarding this prolonged and protracted investigation.”
