JAILED | Plymouth shoplifter jailed for stealing goods worth thousands of pounds
A prolific shoplifter has been jailed for a year after being convicted of a total of 18 shoplifting offences.
Justin Godefroy, 28, of no fixed abode, Plymouth, was sentenced at Plymouth Magistrates’ Court on Monday 4 August after entering guilty pleas to the charges.
Godefroy must also pay £600 compensation to Co-Op.
Godefroy’s offending included the theft of the following, all from various Co-Op stores around Plymouth across various dates over the summer:
- Food worth £60
- Laundry products worth £50
- Meat and cheese worth £80
- Meat and laundry products worth £100
- Meat, coffee and detergent worth £115
- Laundry items worth £100
- Meat worth £150
- Detergent worth £80
- Meat and cheese and a basket worth £120
- Meat and a basket worth £70
- Liquid pods worth £70
- Meat and cheese worth £405
- Laundry items worth £150
- Health and beauty stock and a basket worth £70
- Health and beauty stock worth £50.
- Boxes of chocolate worth more than £50 and a £20 basket.
- Alcohol, coffee, meat and laundry products worth £200.
- Laundry products worth £100.
The burglary took place on Wednesday 30 July and involved Godefroy approaching the till at a Premier store to buy something. When a member of staff opened the till, Godefroy reached over and grabbed a large quantity of cash.
Godefroy refused to be interviewed following his arrest.
PCSO Nicola Healy said: “We welcome the sentence given by the court to Justin Godefroy.
“Godefroy is among the most prolific of offenders and time and time again demonstrated his lack of consideration for the businesses he targeted and stole from.
“We will continue to tackle retail crime and do everything we can to bring to justice offenders such as Justin Godefroy.”
