Witness appeal following collision involving car and jogger near Hatherleigh

We are appealing for witnesses and information after a jogger was seriously injured in a collision with a car being driven on the A3072 in West Devon.

Officers were called to the A3072 between Garlands Farm and Highampton on Thursday 3 September, at around 8.30am. The collision involved a man out jogging and a dark coloured SUV Vauxhall Grandland Car which was travelling in the Hatherleigh bound direction. The car allegedly then left the scene.

A 41-year-old local man sustained serious life changing injuries and remains in hospital.

A 43-year-old man, of Bideford, has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless/ inconsiderate driving; causing serious injury by dangerous driving; causing serious injury by driving while disqualified; failing to stop after a road accident; driving while unfit through drugs; driving without insurance and driving a motor vehicle on a road after refusal of grant/ revocation of a driving licence on account of disability.

He has been released on police bail while enquiries continue.

Officers from the Roads Policing team are keen to hear from anyone who may have been in the area at the time who saw the vehicle near the scene or has any dash cam or CCTV nearby which can help with the investigation.
