Police Support Volunteers win ‘best in show’
A team of police volunteers won an award at an annual summer event in North Devon last month.
Four Police Cadets attended the North Devon Homes summer fayre at Park Community School in Barnstaple on 25 July, supported by Volunteer Cadet leaders, Event Volunteers, Police Community Support Officers and Citizens in Policing Development Officers.
The team spent the day speaking to the local community about careers in policing and the benefits of becoming a police cadet. They also ran a memory game with prizes and made fingerprint keyrings and certificates with younger visitors.
The event ran from 11:30am until 3:00pm and was attended by hundreds of people who enjoyed a display by Devon & Somerset Fire and Rescue Service, as well as family activities including bingo, wet sponging and a magic show.
Awards were handed out by the organisers towards the end of the day, and the team from Devon & Cornwall Police were delighted to received ‘best in show’.
Marea Logan, Citizens in Policing Development Officer at Devon & Cornwall Police, said, “The cadets were fantastic role models and did an amazing job of engaging with visitors and answering questions about becoming a police cadet.
“Jasmine – one of our cadets – demonstrated her leadership skills; providing support and guidance to the other cadets who were taking charge of the fingerprint station; and Will and Olly shared their own experiences of the cadet programme and their progression within policing with visitors to the police stand.
“The event was a great success and we’re very proud to have received an award.”
