UPDATE | Murder investigation following fire in Newquay
We are continuing to investigate the death of a man following a fire at a residential property in Newquay.
Officers were called by the fire service to a fire at a residential property on Narrowcliff, Newquay, at around 4.35pm on Tuesday 22 July.
The body of a man in his 30s was found deceased in the property. His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
A 33-year-old man from Bolton has been arrested on suspicion of murder. He has been released on police bail, pending further enquiries.
The cause of the fire is believed to be suspicious, and enquiries are ongoing to establish the surrounding circumstances.
A police cordon remains in place at the scene.
Detective Superintendent Jon Bancroft, Force Senior Investigation Officer, said: “Officers are continuing to carry out a number of enquiries in relation to this investigation.
“While a man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and subsequently released on bail, we are keeping an open mind in relation to the circumstances surrounding the death, which we are currently treating as unexplained.
“I continue to ask anyone who may have relevant dashcam footage, doorbell or CCTV footage and any relevant information, to contact police and report anything that may assist us.”
