New Sector Inspector joins the police team in West Devon

Daniel Jones has taken up a new role as Sector Inspector in West Devon and is looking forward to getting to know the local community.

The officer joined Devon & Cornwall Police as a Constable in 2014 and has served as a Patrol Officer for the past ten years, responding to a variety of emergency incidents and other public demand. During this decade he was promoted to Sergeant and then Inspector. He also worked on critical incident management and a project to improve investigative quality.   

His new role includes overseeing the Neighbourhood Police Teams in Tavistock and Okehampton, as well as the surrounding villages.  

Inspector Jones said: “I am pleased to be taking on this role in the fantastic West Devon area and want to enthusiastically continue to tackle your priorities and maintain the hard work and high standards already achieved.

“It’s important we keep the momentum going with community engagement and responding to public need. Our priorities here in West Devon are road safety, anti-social behaviour and drugs.

He added: “I look forward to getting out and about and meeting local residents, as well as working with colleagues in partner organisations such as the local authority to keep the area safe.”        

Before joining Devon & Cornwall Police Inspector Jones previously worked as a radio operator for Avon & Somerset Police. His hobbies including running and coaching youth football and in his younger days he completed the Ten Tors challenge on Dartmoor as part of his bronze, silver and gold Duke of Edinburgh awards.     

Inspector Jones is due to attend the official opening of the Public Enquiry Office at Tavistock police station next month (February). The office is due to be open Monday to Saturday and will allow more face-to-face contact for the public to talk to officers. The Force will continue to take calls via 101 and reports via the Devon & Cornwall Police website Home | Devon & Cornwall Police    

You can meet some of the Neighbourhood Police Team on the morning of Tuesday 18 February at the Tavistock Pannier Market. They will be there to chat to shoppers until midday so please come along and say hello. You can also meet officers at Lifton Community Centre on Thursday 20 February between 11am-12pm and at Walkhampton Farmers Market on the morning of Saturday 22 February.

Here are some other dates you may wish to make a note of - local officers will attend as many as they can.

  • Tuesday 28Jan – 11am  - North Tawton Town Council office – Devon and Cornwall Alert sign up day. Come along and find out more about the free messaging system.
  • Tuesday 4 Feb – 3pm – 4pm Chagford library – community drop in to have a chat and ask questions
  • Friday 7 Feb – 9am - Okehampton College career day for students
  • Saturday 8 Feb – 11am – Hatherleigh Co-op – ask questions and sign up to Devon and Cornwall Alert.
  • Thursday 13 Feb – 3.30pm – 4:30pm – Okehampton Library – community drop in
  • Thursday 27 Feb – 3pm – 4.30pm – Hatherleigh School – community drop in and chat to parents  

All events are subject to change and dependent on operational demands.
